Grade Explained
Understanding Our Grading System for Used and Refurbished Laptops
At Outdoor Laptops, we understand that the condition of a previously owned item can vary greatly, and what one person considers acceptable may not meet another's expectations. That's why we've developed a comprehensive grading system for our refurbished laptops, allowing you to choose the condition that best suits your needs and budget.
Since 2011, we've sold thousands of refurbished TOUGHBOOK units to satisfied customers. During this time, we've been asked a wide range of questions about the condition of these units, such as:
- How bright is the screen?
- Is it too scratched up?
- Any dents or cracks?
- How strong are the screen hinges?
- Is it missing any doors or port covers?
- How about the keyboard and the touchpad, are they too shiny or worn-out?
- What's the battery life like?
- How long do you think this unit would last being used in a harsh environment like a repair shop or on a boat?
Our response has always been, "It depends." We offer a variety of configurations, pricing, warranty options, and more to cater to different buyers with varying priorities and expectations.
To simplify the process and provide greater transparency, we've introduced an "Overall Grade" option for every refurbished laptop we sell. This grading system allows you to easily determine the condition of the laptop, making it easier for you to find the perfect fit for your needs.
Our grading system is divided into three categories
- Grade A: Laptops in this category are in excellent condition, with minimal signs of wear and tear. They may have been used infrequently or returned by a customer who opened the box but never used the laptop. Grade A laptops are the closest to new in terms of both appearance and performance.
Bright and clear display with zero blemishes Firm hinges All doors and port covers are intact and in great shape Keyboard and touchpad look great Battery guaranteed to be at least 70% healthy - Grade B: Laptops in this category are in good condition, with some visible signs of wear and tear. They may have minor scratches, scuffs, or other cosmetic imperfections. Grade B laptops are fully functional and offer excellent value for those who don't mind some cosmetic blemishes.
A screen with at least 70% brightness will pass this bar. No scratches or bright spots. Hinges are not as firm, but will hold just fine All doors and port covers are intact, but may show signs of wear Keyboard and touchpad may look shiny Battery guaranteed to be at least 50% healthy - Grade C: Laptops in this category are in fair condition, with more noticeable signs of wear and tear. They may have minor cracks in the shell, minor scratches and dings, and a screen that exhibits a number of scratches and scuffs. Grade C laptops are still fully functional and offer a great value for those who prioritize performance over appearance.
Screen may be at 50-70% of its original brightness and may require replacement in a year or two. May show surface scratches or bright spots. May also show 1-5 dead pixels. Hinges may be a bit loose and may not hold firm at all angles All doors are intact but may show signs of wear.
